Indian handset brand Micromax has launched a dual-SIM Android Gingerbread phone – the A50 aka Ninja for Rs. 4,999 which comes with Siri-like service called Aisha which stands for “Artificial Intelligence Speech Handset Assistant.” Targeting women Micromax has usually used white for its phones, in the same way they have coloured A50 looks pretty much same. Its body is made up of shiny plastic.
The front panel has a 3.1 inch touchscreen with three hardware keys. The bottom of the phone tapers to the end reminding us of certain brand’s like HTC phones. To break the monotony in the look of the phone there is a metallic strip around the sides to break the white.
As the hardware goes at back there is a 2.0-megapixel camera, and feels strong to hold. Inside the phone there is a 650 MHz processor, which is at same level as such other low-priced device has. Phone has dual SIM functionality with a SIM manager which lets you choose to keep either or both the SIMs active. SIM 1 comes with 3G connectivity and apart from that there is Wi-Fi (with Wi-Fi Direct), and Bluetooth as well.
The Micromax A50 comes with a 1200mAh battery that would last just about a day for moderate useage on a single charge. The handset comes with just 135 MB of internal storage but one can expand the memory through microSD card to up to 32GB. At the top panel it has 3.5 mm jack and power button, while the left panel has a charging/Micro-USB port and volume rocker.
The software is designed approximately on the lines of Siri. You can chat with it or ask it to call, SMS, e-mail, etc. The browser has multitouch support but lacks Flash. There is a special wireless keyboard application that lets you to connect via Bluetooth. The handset comes in with just the standard Android 2.3.6 applications and no other extra applications were pre-installed, apart from AISHA.
On the entertainment part A50 has a fixed camera with feature highlights of panorama mode and smile shot along with face detection and includes options to alter white balance, picture quality, and colour effects. It also has something called burst shot that was recently seen in high-end Android smartphones like HTC One X and Lava XOLO X900. The picture quality remains average.
You can also capture videos using the camera which again are average. The sound quality of the default player is all right through the loudspeaker and comes with sound effect enhancements. There is a FM radio too. The video player plays 720p videos with ease.
